Expanding Open-source participation

It seems that cleversafe participation is somewhat limited or lacking.

Other then programming what are some ways the rest of us can get involved.

What about a open-source 1st movers program???

Thanks again for your interest in Cleversafe. I apologize for our general lack of attention to the open source community during the last year. We've been working hard to get our first commercial release out the door. However, we are currently in the process of rededicating ourselves to open source.

Our first course of action will be to spruce up our open source infrastructure. At that point, we be focusing on improving documentation and making our software more usable.

In the meantime please feel free to try out the software. I would be particularly interested in assisting you get set up. Do you have a particular use case you are interested in accomplishing? If you are just generally interested, I can suggest some deployments that we are interested in getting some further testing on and perhaps you can help in that vein.

Hey Dylan:

My name is John Quigley, and Wesley and myself are going to be focusing our efforts over the coming months in nurturing our Open Source community.  This is going to be a multifaceted effort targeting both users and developers, and we're really excited about sharing the details with you.  Look for announcements and blog posts in the next few coming weeks where I'll expand upon our roadmap.

If you're interested in getting more involved, we love your help.  There's a tremendous amount of work to be done in the way of dsnet usability, project advocacy, software documentation or site administration.  On what front would you like to proceed?  I'd personally like to collaborate with you on open source usability matters, to identify missing features, documentation, etc.

We're also extremely receptive to any ideas you have, so would you be good enough to elaborate on your first movers idea?

If you're ever in Chicago, please send me an email and we'll invite you by the offices.  We can chat and coffee will be on me!  Thanks so much again for your thoughts and questions.

All my best,

John Quigley

"Do you have a particular use case you are interested in accomplishing?"

I have 12 1TB server waiting in 4 locations to run the next usable version of cleversafe opensource.
And one 4 node 3tera grid server for the main accesor. I will be using this to replace the current outdated data storage system I use for my company and for my storage customers.

@jquigley

I would be willing to work on documentation.
I had written a setup guide for my personal use for v1.0

Also I could be of help with site administration.

The opensource first movers idea:
Because a given dsnet is so flexible it lends its self to cooperation. If we could find groups who can add servers to a central pool it would only strengthen the dsnet as a whole.
There are a number of obstacles though:
resource management, usage, monitoring, management.

Could be a fun project and proof of concept though if it were used for a charitable cause.

I still have to do some thinking on that front.
But I would be willing to donate a server or 2! :)
